| Daily Devotional for January 9, 2024 For the last six months, Shannon’s home has been in rehabilitation hospitals in Dallas. In a little over month, that will change. While she doesn’t remember our home or our wonderful life prior to the accident, I will be bringing her home. This past week, the therapists in Dallas began training me on how to care of her when she comes home. It’s a lot. One task that needed to be accomplished was a home evaluation by an occupational therapist. This report would give me a list of items to be addressed, installed, or removed from the house prior to Shannon’s arrival. This past Sunday afternoon, two of the occupational therapists from our church came out for our home evaluation. I had no idea what to expect. Laura and Ariane, measured everything, explained what furniture needed to go, and why it needed to go. They told me where I was to place grab bars, supportive chairs, and nonskid mats. I was very impressed by their expertise in a field I know nothing about. Later Sunday afternoon, Ariane emailed a copy of their evaluation so I would know what I needed to do. I forwarded it to the hospital in Dallas for the therapists to see. Needless to say, I am preparing a home for Shannon, but I’m not the only one. Did you know there is a home being prepared for you? It won’t have grab bars, supportive chairs, and nonskid mats. It will be beautiful and have everything you will ever need or want. This is what Jesus meant when he told the disciples, “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.” (John 14:1-3) Your real home is not in this world. It’s with God. He’s getting it ready for you. That’s a good thing. Prayer: Dear Gracious Heavenly God, I know I am only truly home when I am with you. Please use me to guide others to your home. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. When I bring Shannon home, it will be as perfect as I can make it. I know that when God brings her home, it will be perfect. I’m looking forward to bringing Shannon home. I know God is looking forward to bringing all of us home. Both of those will be good days. I pray your day is filled with joy and laughter, Tom Robbins |
