Rerun of Daily Devotional October 21, 2019

In 2008, Billy Currington released a song about sitting in a bar with an old man.  As they get to know each other, he sings, We talked about God’s grace and all the hell we raised, then I heard the ol’ man say; “God is great, beer is good and people are crazy.”

The name of the song is People are Crazy. And no matter where you stand on the beer thing, you have to admit God is great and people are crazy.  If you don’t believe me, watch people waiting in an airport, go to the State Fair of Texas, or take an extended shopping trip to Walmart.  You will be both  entertained and amazed.

The problem is while I don’t have a problem looking at other people and thinking they are crazy, that makes me the standard for sanity.  And if that’s the case, we are all in trouble.

The bottom line is while some people are a whole lot crazier than others, everyone is crazy to some degree.

So before you start judging just how crazy other people are, just remember, we are all in the same boat.

When the remarkable English evangelical preacher and martyr, John Bradford, saw a group of criminals being led to the gallows, he said, “There but for the grace of God, go I.”  Truer words were never spoken.

As you  begin a new work week, know that you are going to encounter some people you think are crazy.  And more than likely, they are going to have the same opinion about you.  So err on the side of grace and be careful about judging others.

Jesus said, “Do not judge, and you will not be judged.  Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned.  Forgive, and you will be forgiven.”  (Luke 6:37)

If you want to start off your day looking at a crazy person, look in the mirror.  Then, as you meet other crazy people throughout the day, remember that while their crazy may not be your crazy, we are all crazy.

Prayer:  Dear Gracious Heavenly God, help me to see others through your loving eyes.  Forgive my judgmental attitude and help me to see myself as I really am.  In Jesus’ name I pray.  Amen.

The fact that God puts up with all us crazy people really does mean God is great and God is good.  Thank God!

I pray your day is filled with joy and laughter.
