Rerun of Daily Devotional August 26, 2016
Earlier this week, Shannon told me I needed to write a book. She said, “It needs to be a religious book because you are somewhat Christian.”
What does that mean? I’m not cool with my wife saying I am somewhat Christian. That’s like saying I’m somewhat intelligent, somewhat a good father, somewhat a good husband, or somewhat handsome.
Somewhat means not quite there. That’s not good.
I certainly don’t want to stand before the Pearly Gates and have Jesus say, “Tom, you were somewhat Christian.”
My understanding of what it means to follow Jesus Christ is that you are either all-in or all-out. There is no room for somewhat.
Jesus says, “Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with me scatters.” (Matthew 12:30)
Jesus is very clear that there is no middle ground.
If you had to rate you own devotion to Jesus, would you be for, against or somewhat? There’s only one right answer.
Prayer: Dear Gracious Heavenly God, please help me to put you first in every aspect of my life. Strengthen my faith, deepen my commitment and fill me with your joy. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.
I should probably ask what Shannon meant by saying that I am somewhat Christian but I am afraid I won’t like the answer.
Sometimes it’s best to let sleeping dogs lie.
