Some people are addicted to drugs. Some people are addicted to alcohol. Shannon and I are addicted to dogs.
One of my all-time favorite dogs was Piper. She was named after the beautiful actress, Piper Laurie.
Piper ran faster than any dog I have ever seen. She was a true joy, but something went wrong.
We took her to the A&M School of Veterinary Medicine. They were certain Piper had a brain tumor.
When her cancer reached the point she began to suffer, I immediately took her to the vet so she could go to heaven without pain or fear. As hard as it was, I would do it again. It was the right thing to do.
Two months ago, I got Shannon a beautiful, dapple dachshund puppy. Shannon asked me what we should name her.
In retrospect, we should have named her Mouth Full of Needle Teeth, but I didn’t know it at the time. So, we named her Piper. Now, whenever I hear the name Piper, I think of two beautiful dogs that have given me joy. I really like the name Piper.
Did you know it doesn’t matter if your name is Sue, David, Mary, or Snuffleupagus, God likes your name? That’s because whenever God hears your name, God immediately thinks of you. God loves you. God is your biggest fan.
When the Israelites believed God had forgotten them, God said, “But Zion said, ‘The LORD has forsaken me, my LORD has forgotten me.’ Can a woman forget her nursing child, or show no compassion for the child of her womb? Even these may forget, yet I will not forget you. See, I have inscribed you on the palms of my hands….” (Isaiah 49:13-16)
God loves you so much, your name is written on the palms of God’s hands. That’s how much you matter.
So, if you think your name means mud, know you are wrong. When God hears your name, God smiles. That’s a good thing.
Prayer: Dear Gracious Heavenly God, thank you for loving me. Help me to love others. I want to bring a smile to your face. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
Just for the record, my name is Tom. It means Most Talented, Handsome, and Intelligent Pastor of All-time. Just to be sure, I’ll look it up.
I pray your day is filled with joy and laughter.
