The three greatest movies of all-time are Fury, Lilo & Stitch, and O Brother, Where Art Thou?  No other movie has come close to cracking the top three but that may have changed.

Sunday afternoon I got the following text from Gary:  “Watched a movie I thought you might like called “Greater” on Netflix.  A true story kind of about football but not really.”

Realizing Gary is relatively trustworthy and his taste in movies is as spectacularly good as mine, Shannon and I watched the movie.

Greater is based on the amazing true story of Brandon Burlsworth and the phenomenal impact he made on the world in his short-lived life.   But, more importantly, the primary focus of the movie is the struggle of Brandon’s older brother, Marty, to either give into his anger or trust that God has a bigger plan than he can see.  It is at Brandon’s funeral that Marty makes his choice.

Did you know that is one of the primary tasks of a pastor during a funeral?

In those moments of extreme grief and distress, as the family says goodbye to a loved one, the pastor’s job is to make sure everyone understands there is a bigger picture and that life does not end the moment we close our eyes in this world for the last time.  That’s why Jesus came.

Jesus said, “The thief comes only to seal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.”  (John 10:10)

Today, choose to trust God even though you don’t see the big picture.  Trust God has your best intentions at heart.  Trust God is an active presence in your life.  Trust God loves you more than life itself.   Trust God would rather die than live without you.  Trust God did die so that you can live.  Trust in God’s plan, the big picture, for your life.  Trust.

Prayer:  Dear Gracious Heavenly God, help me trust in you in the good and bad times of my life.  Give me light in the darkness, peace in the storm, and direction when I am lost.  In Jesus’ name I pray.  Amen.

Trusting God is the best decision you will ever make.  I hope you trust.

Also, watch Greater.  You will be glad you did.

I pray your day is filled with joy and laughter.
