Sunday, after the second worship service, Pastor Kit and I were walking from the sanctuary back to Dennis Hall. He said, “That was the best sermon I have ever heard you preach.”
I responded, “You are very gracious.”
Then he said, “I didn’t hear it. I was in children’s church.”
I fired him.
While you may not have an associate pastor that needs to be fired, more than likely, someone, someday, somewhere, somehow, is going to say something that gets on your nerves. Don’t let it.
Life is too short to get bent out of shape by comments that don’t matter.
In fact, a saying in the military is, “If they aren’t firing live ammunition, it’s not that big a deal.”
Irreverent, ill advised, idiotic comments are not live ammunition. They don’t really matter. So, don’t let them bother you. It’s biblical.
The wisest of all people said, “A soft answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.” (Proverbs 15:1)
The world is full of goofballs. Don’t be one of them. Let harsh words roll off your back. It will make life much easier.
Prayer: Dear Gracious Heavenly God, the world is filled with harsh, cruel rhetoric. Please use me as a calm presence in the midst of the storms of life. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
There will always be harsh words. Don’t let them bother you. God wants more for you.
Also, just for the record, Kit’s still fired. I’m going to miss him.
I pray your day is filled with joy and laughter.
