Daily Devotional for May 17, 2023

There are some people that are so good, it is against the law not to like them.  Jane is one of those.  These are her words.  I hope they bless you the way they have me.

“The Choice

One morning as I was driving into town, I stopped at the intersection of FM. 3117 and Hwy. 53 before turning left.  I noticed that a black pickup was coming toward me in the lane to turn right onto the road I was exiting.  I saw no other traffic in either direction, but my foot would not press the gas pedal to take me onto my route.  I recall thinking, “Dummy, why didn’t you go on?”  The next instant a black pickup whizzed by me driving east.  I slumped in my seat and breathed a prayer of gratitude to God.  I would have been splattered all over Hwy. 53 if my foot had done what my mind directed!

Momentarily, the second pickup had been in exactly the right position in my line of vision to be obscured by the pickup turning right.  Some loss of vision in my left eye could have contributed further to my near calamity, along with the identical color of the two vehicles.

As I continued my drive into town, I felt enveloped by the loving God who, in my view, had just saved me from probable extinction.  However, I mused that some people would view my experience quite differently.  Some gerontologists might comment that in this incidence my slower response, caused by advanced age, worked in my favor.  The safety expert would say, “See—looking twice saved your life!”  The pragmatist would chalk it up to pure luck.

I choose to see the hand of my loving Father in this experience, and because of this choice I am empowered daily to face a world that I increasingly do not understand, and which often scares and depresses me, only because I trust that His hand is ultimately in control, not only of little me, but of this whole seemingly crazy world.

We all have a choice.”

Whether you see it or not, God is always working in your life.  This is why you can face whatever this crazy world sends your direction.  God is always with you. Jesus said, “My Father is still working, and I also am working.”  (John 5:17)

Make the decision to trust God.  It will be the best decision you ever make.

Prayer:  Dear Gracious Heavenly God, there are many times I don’t see you working in my life.  Help me see.  Help me trust.  Help me walk with you.  In Jesus’ name I pray.  Amen.

God’s got your back.  You’re good.

I pray your day is filled with joy and laughter.
