Rerun of Daily Devotional May 1, 2017

This past weekend, I drove all the way to Marathon, TX, which is right next to Hawaii.  Even though it was a long drive, it was worth every second.  It was the result of an answered prayer.  That’s because the first few pages of my prayer journal are a list of the people that I pray for every day.  Tara was on that list.

Years ago, Tara’s parents had shared with me that she had come to the place where she was ready to meet the right man and begin the next phase of her life, but she didn’t seem to be having any luck finding a good man with her religious values.  I told them I would add her to my prayer list.

For years, I had prayed that this wonderful young woman would find the man that God wanted her to marry.  Then on Saturday night, Brooks and I performed Tara’s wedding.  According to Tara’s father, the reason it took two pastors is because Tara is “extra special.”  I agree.

In a small town in west Texas, right next to Hawaii, I saw God answer a prayer. That’s what God does.

I wish I could explain the power of prayer.  In some respects, it is a mystery.  No one fully understands prayer, but I do know that prayer matters.

And while many of my prayers do not work out the way I want, I know that God’s plan continues to unfold in each person’s life and that’s what truly matters.  This is where trusting God comes in.

That’s what John meant when he said, “This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us.”  (1 John 5:14)

Sunday morning, as I said my prayers, in my prayer journal I drew through Tara’s name.  My prayer had been answered.  She’s off the list.  That tells me God is very good.

Prayer:  Dear Gracious Heavenly God, thank you for always listening to my prayers.  Guide me as I walk your path.  Fill my mind with wisdom, my heart with love, and my hands with action.  In Jesus’ name I pray.  Amen.

If you are not a person of prayer, I urge you to become one.  It will change your life.  I know it did mine.

I pray your day is filled with joy and laughter.
