While I know many men brag about their wives, I have to admit, Shannon really is awesome.  Let me give you an example.

Yesterday was the Super Bowl and I was feeling sorry for myself for two reasons.  First, Shannon and I both have COVID.  Second, our tradition during the Super Bowl has always been to eat buffalo wings, nachos, salsa, pizza, and every other type of junk food known to humankind.

Unfortunately, because I am delicate, we eat a whole-food, plant-based diet, which rules out all the good food of the Super Bowl.  That’s where Shannon shined.

To celebrate the Super Bowl, Shannon spent a great deal of time in the kitchen making cauliflower buffalo wraps.  This really was an extraordinary effort because she did not feel well.

The wraps were incredible.

In the first bite, I knew our Super Bowl tradition was back.  It was like eating real junk food.  Then, all of a sudden, the tasty buffalo sauce decided to become a raging inferno.  I started sweating profusely and I saw colors only someone on LSD gets to see.

As I finished my third glass of water, Shannon realized I was close to going to the emergency room.  She told me I didn’t have to eat the wraps if they were too hot.  They were so good, I kept eating and the four-alarm fire that started in my mouth, moved to my stomach.  It was exactly what I needed for Super Bowl.

This got me thinking.

Even though Shannon wasn’t feeling well, she still went out of her way to do something extraordinarily nice for me, just because.  This really was a tremendous sacrifice.  That’s what love is all about.

In this confusing world, Jesus is the example on how we are to conduct ourselves.  It’s about sacrificial love.  It’s what he did.  It’s what he expects of us.

Jesus said, “I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you.”  (John 13:15)

Your sacrificial love may not be cooking food, when you don’t feel well, for your whiny husband, but there is a way you can demonstrate true love to those you encounter today.  Don’t waste the opportunity.  Just do it.

Prayer:  Dear Gracious Heavenly God, by my words and actions, help me demonstrate your love toa desperate world.  In Jesus’ name I pray.  Amen.

Today, I’m going to finish off the leftover cauliflower buffalo wraps.

If you see Care Flight in the air, know it’s me being rushed to the hospital.  I am pumped.

I pray your day is filled with joy and laughter.
