Daily Devotional for January 3, 2023

This is the first devotional of the new year.  It feels strange to write 2023 but that’s where we are.  This got me thinking.

There are 365 days, 52.1429 weeks, 8,760 hours, 525,600 minutes, and 31,536,000 seconds in each year.

When I was younger, that would have sounded like a lot, but the older I get, the more aware I am of the passing of time.  It is flying by and as the old saying goes, “Time waits for no one.”

While time is the most precious commodity, I wonder how much I’ve wasted?  Probably a lot.

I have never been a fan of new year’s resolutions because I can’t seem to keep them, but this year I am making one.  I am going to be a better steward of the time that God has granted me.  I intend to make it count.  I hope you do too.

As the great theologian Tim McGraw sang, “Someday I hope you get the chance to live like you were dying.”

So, if you knew for certain today was your last day, what would you do?  I suspect you’d make it count.

Scripture is very clear that we have a very limited time on this earth.  That’s why the psalmist said, “As for man, his days are like grass; as a flower of the field, so he flourishes. When the wind has passed over it, it is no more, and its place acknowledges it no longer.” (Psalm 103:15-16)

Someday you will be in your true home where time no longer matters.  Until that day comes, make the time you have in this world count.  You won’t regret it.

Prayer:  Dear Gracious Heavenly God, as I begin this new year, I pray you guide my words, thoughts, and actions.  Help me make a difference.  Help me be a good steward of my time.  In Jesus’ name I pray.  Amen.

It’s a new day.  Time to get busy making a difference.

I pray your day is filled with joy and laughter.
