This past Sunday, just before the 8:30 worship service began, I walked out one of the vestibules to see if anyone was still in the parking lots. A few stragglers were making their way to the church. That was the moment I saw Larry and Carol.
While I’m wasn’t worried about Carol because she’s good to go, I knew Larry needed as much church as he could get, so I yelled out, “Hurry up. We are waiting for the important people.”
They were too far away for me to understand what Larry yelled back, but I was sure it was completely appropriate and holy.
As I walked up to the chancel area, I got the following text from Larry at 8:29, “We are here. You can start now. LOL!”
The worship service started with all the important people present.
This got me thinking.
Did you know you are important?
Your importance is not based on what others think of you or even what you think of yourself. No matter the size of your bank account, political affiliation, education level, skin color, sexual orientation, or gender, you matter to God and that’s all that matters.
You are so important to God, he would rather die than live without you, and that is exactly what he did.
John said, “This is real love-not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins.” (1 John 4:10 NLT)
Never think you don’t matter. Never think God doesn’t love you. Never think Jesus didn’t die for you.
Prayer: Dear Gracious Heavenly God, thank you for loving me. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
God’s love and sacrifice make you important.
So today, as the world tries to fit you into an easily understood category, remember who you are. You are God’s child. You matter.
Also, just for the record, Sunday’s sermon really did save Larry’s soul. I’m that good.
I pray your day is filled with joy and laughter.
