Rerun of Daily Devotional August 5, 2015
Yesterday, I attended a one-day retreat for Methodist pastors. We discussed different questions on spirituality.
One question was “What do you do to keep your relationship with Christ refreshed and renewed?”
A pastor, who had previously served as a military officer, said that he set the alarm on his phone to go off at 15:16 hours (3:16 pm for civilians) every afternoon to remind him that God had chosen him to become a pastor and all he was doing was responding to God’s call and claim on his life.
He then explained that the alarm going off at 15:16 hours always reminded him of John 15:16. Then he repeated Jesus words: “You did not choose me but I chose you. And I appointed you to go and bear fruit, fruit that will last, so that the Father will give you whatever you ask him in my name.” (John 15:16)
Did you know the same holds true for you?
God has chosen you to fulfill his purpose in this world. You are not a mistake, accident or simply the result of physical intimacy. You were created for a purpose. But you are the one who must say “Yes.”
While you may not have an alarm that goes off every afternoon as a reminder of your reason for being, the evidence is always there.
My hope is that as you read this devotional, you are reminded of your purpose. Let this be your alarm.
Prayer: Dear Gracious Heavenly God, when I am pulled in different directions, remind me who I am and whose I am. Give me the clarity, wisdom, and the strength to do your will. Bless my life and service. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
Reminders are everywhere. All we have to do is look.
I pray your day is filled with joy, laughter, and reminders.
