A few years ago, because I spend so much time in the sun, Don gave me a sombrero for protection which is very important because Shannon has planted a gazillion trees and my job is to water them. This hat is the greatest hat in the history of hats.
It’s a real sombrero. Not the kind of sissy, wimpy sombrero you wear at a Mexican restaurant when your family sings Happy Birthday. It’s the real deal.
Whenever I wear it, I have to cinch it down with the lanyard, so it doesn’t fly off my head but when the wind is really blowing, I almost go airborne.
When I wear my sombrero, no matter how hard the sun is beating down, my face is completely protected. I love it. This got me thinking.
For those who give ourselves to Jesus, even though evil can touch our lives, it cannot destroy us because of God’s loving protection.
This is what the psalmist meant by saying, “The Lord is your keeper; the Lord is your shade at your right hand. The sun shall not strike you by day, nor the moon by night. The Lord will keep you from all evil; he will keep your life. The Lord will keep your going out and your coming in from this time on and forever more.” (Psalm 121:5-8)
There is no doubt evil is real, but God is more powerful than any evil you will face. God will bring you home.
Prayer: Dear Gracious Heavenly God, in times of trial and tribulation, help me trust in you. Thank you for loving me and always being with me. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
Just for the record, the reason Don and I look so good wearing our sombreros is because we both have perfect bone structure.
You may not look as good as we do but if you wear a sombrero, you will be protected.
Some things are more important than looks.
I pray your day is filled with joy and laughter.
