Rerun of Daily Devotional November 18, 2016

Mike sent me the following story.  It really got me thinking.

“Some guy bought a new fridge for his house. To get rid of his old fridge, he put it in his front yard and hung a sign on it saying “Free to good home, You want it — you take it.”

For three days the fridge sat there without even one person looking twice at it. He eventually decided that people were too un-trusting of this deal – looks too good to be true – so he changed the sign to read “Fridge for sale $50.”

The next day someone stole it.”

I wonder what would happen if Shannon sat me down in the front yard and hung a sign around my neck that said, “Free to good home, You want it – you take it.”?

I suspect I’d be sitting there till the cows came home.

The good news is that no matter what value the world places on me, in God’s eyes I am of worth.  It’s the same for you.

No matter what the world may think of you or even what you think of yourself, when God sees you, he sees a precious part of his creation and God loves you more than you can possibly imagine.

John says, “See what love the Father has given us, that we should be called children of God; and this is what we are.”  (1 John 3:1)

You may feel like you are an old beat up refrigerator sitting in the front yard that no one wants, but that’s not true.  You too have a sign hanging on you that makes you of infinite value – it’s the cross.

And the reason we know this is the old song that we used to sing in Sunday school when I was a little boy:  “Jesus loves me – this I know, for the Bible tells me so.”

So begin this new day knowing that you matter in the eyes of God.  And if you matter to God, you can handle whatever life sends your way because you are not alone.

Prayer:  Dear Gracious Heavenly God, there are times when I feel as if I have no value in a world that places a value on everything.  But then I remember how much you love me.  I remember that Jesus came to save me and this fills me with joy.  Give me the wisdom, words, and resolve to share this good news with others.  In Jesus’ name I pray.  Amen.

God created the universe so that he could get to know you.  That’s a pretty big deal.

I pray your day is filled with joy and laughter.
