Early this morning, as I stepped outside into the darkness to walk the dogs, I immediately felt a slight sprinkling of raindrops on my face. I thought, “Great. Just what I need to start the day. Nothing like getting wet first thing in the morning.”
Once inside, having fed the dogs and sitting at the computer, wondering about today’s devotional, I realized what I had done.
The few raindrops that unexpectedly dampened my hair had put me in a bad mood. I am not sure why.
The rain is a much needed blessing. And sure, it may be a little inconvenient but that’s just how life works.
For a mother, a newborn child is a true blessing but my impression is childbirth is very inconvenient.
For a student, an education is a blessing that opens many doors of opportunity but going to one class after another is very inconvenient.
Being married is a blessing but having to clear buying a new tractor with your spouse can be very inconvenient.
Going to church on Sunday mornings is a blessing but getting up sleepy teenagers for church is very inconvenient.
Life is full of inconveniences but the blessings are worth it. In the end, we know where we are going.
This is what Paul meant by saying, “For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all.” (2 Corinthians 4:17)
As you begin this new day, know there will be inconveniences but you are incredibly blessed. Give God thanks.
Prayer: Dear Gracious Heavenly God, in those myopic moments, when all I see is an inconvenience, open my eyes so I may see how truly blessed I am. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
Just for the record, sitting here at my computer, I can hear the gentle rain I experienced a few minutes ago is now a heavy downpour.
I missed the worst of the rain.
God is good.
I pray your day is filled with joy and laughter.
