Daily Devotional for June 16, 2021

From my limited perspective, it seems as if the world is becoming more and more polarized.  And if someone doesn’t agree with absolutely everything you believe, it is okay to paint them as the enemy.

One example is the political spectrum.  It is rapidly dividing into two opposite camps.

On one extreme are the left wing, police hating, communist, dope smoking, atheist, hippie, progressive democrats.

They seem to have it all figured out.  I don’t.

The other extreme is the right wing, minority hating, Nazi, Kool-Aid drinking, atheist hating, puritanical, sycophant republicans.

They seem to have it all figured out.  I don’t.

Another example is the Christian religious spectrum.  It too, is rapidly dividing into two opposite camps.

On one extreme are the leftist, progressive, anything goes, God’s your buddy, Bible doubting, going to a church that only teaches exactly what you want to hear, type of Christians.

They seem to have it all figured out.  I don’t.

The other extreme is the right oriented, dogmatic, legalistic, God’s going stick it to you, Bible thumping, going to a church that only teaches exactly what you want to hear, type of Christians.

They seem to have it all figured out.  I don’t.

If the world makes you tired and you’ve had all you can take from those who pretend to have all the answers to all the problems, I have the solution.  Become a follower of the One who can give you peace in the storm, confidence when you don’t have all the answers, and wisdom to err on the side of grace.

I believe with all my heart, while I don’t have all the answers, I have the answer that matters above all else.  It’s Jesus.

When Jesus explains to the disciples he will go to heaven but return to bring them home, Thomas begins to panic.  He doesn’t know how Jesus will do this, where Jesus is going, or how Jesus will come back.

In his fear, Thomas wants all the answers.  He says, “Lord, we do not know where you are going.  How can we know the way?”  (John 14:5)

Jesus says, “I am the way and the truth and the life.  No one comes to the Father except through me.”  (John 14:6)

Did you notice what happened?

Jesus summed up all of Thomas’ many questions and concerns by saying, “I am the way.”

So, if you don’t have all the answers to life but are looking for the one answer that transcends every question, follow Jesus.  You’ll be glad you did.

Prayer:  Dear Gracious Heavenly God, my world is being torn apart by the vocal extremes that have all the answers.  Deep down, I know they don’t.  Help me focus on Jesus and hear his will for my life.  Quiet the noise around me and let me encounter you in a new, beautiful way.  In Jesus’ name I pray.  Amen.

Followers of Jesus don’t claim to have all the answers.  We have the answer.

So, choose to walk on the narrow path that leads to your true home.  We will walk together.

I pray your day is filled with joy and laughter.
