Monday, in the church staff meeting, Craig reported his process for scheduling the many talented people in our church to sing in the worship services. I graciously offered to sing a solo.
Craig went on with his report as if I hadn’t said a word. The fact that he staunchly refused to acknowledge my generous offer kind of hurt my feelings. It was as if I hadn’t said a word. He ignored me.
Then Chris reported on the new audio/visual software program we tried out this past Sunday in worship. He said it was a great program, but he needed to tweak it a little bit. I graciously offered to use my extensive technological expertise to help him.
Chris went on with his report as if I hadn’t said a word. The fact that he staunchly refused to acknowledge my generous offer kind of hurt my feelings. It was as if I hadn’t said a word. He ignored me.
Then Adam reported on the new online only worship service we are putting together. I graciously offered to play a guitar duo with him.
Adam went on with his report as if I hadn’t said a word. The fact that he staunchly refused to acknowledge my generous offer kind of hurt my feelings. It was as if I hadn’t said a word. He ignored me.
At that moment, I began to see a trend.
While there may be times in our lives when we feel as if we are ignored and alone. There is One who never turns his back, walks away, or ignores us. There is One who carefully listens to every word. There is One who always responds. There is One who sent his Son so that we could live with the One for all eternity.
No matter how you may feel at this particular moment, know you are never alone or ignored. The One loves you too much to let that happen.
This is why David sang:
“You have searched me, Lord,
and you know me.
You know when I sit and when I rise;
you perceive my thoughts from afar.
You discern my going out and my lying down;
you are familiar with all my ways.
Before a word is on my tongue
you, Lord, know it completely.” (Psalm 139:1-4)
God knows everything about you, listens to everything you say, and is always with you. That means, even if others aren’t paying attention, God is. You matter.
Prayer: Dear Gracious Heavenly God, thank you for always being with me. Help me to always remember that no matter what others think of me or what I think of myself, when you look at me you see part of your beautiful creation. Remind me I matter. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
As you go about the busyness of this day, know that One watches every move, hears every word, and sees every thought. The One is paying attention because God loves you.
Also, please pray for our church staff. Just because I preach forgiveness doesn’t mean I believe in it.
I pray your day is filled with joy and laughter.
