I have many identities.

To Shannon, I am the perfect man. (If you don’t believe me, just ask me.)

To my children, I’m the one who raised and loved them through thick and thin.

To my congregation, I am the perfect pastor. (If you don’t believe me, just ask me.)

To my grandchildren, I am the one that loves them unconditionally even though this past year, I have been forced to see them primarily on FaceTime because of COVID-19.

To my little hairless, creepy looking dog, I am a warm lap, a meal, and the one who takes her outside to do her business.

To the feed store, I’m a customer.

To the cows, I’m the one who brings the hay.

To the horses, I’m the one who brings feed.

To Dee, I’m the one that breaks farm equipment.

Like I said, I have many identities.

But the identity that matters most is the one that permeates and influences all my identities and every aspect of my life.  That’s because I, like you, am a child of God.

This is the identity that will allow you to face whatever life throws your way.  This is the identity that is your anchor in the storm.  This is the identity that brings true joy and peace.  This is the identity that ensures you will live for eternity.  This is the identity that matters most.

Just know the world will give you many identities.  The one that truly matters is being the child of the One.

This is what John meant by saying, See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! (1 John 3:1)

You are God’s child.  Live like it.

Prayer:  Dear Gracious Heavenly God, sometimes in the mad rush of the day, I forget my true identity.  Please continually remind me I am your child.  Help me live like it.  In Jesus’ name I pray.  Amen.

As you face the complexities of this coming day, operate out of your true identity.  It’s the best way to live.

I pray your day is filled with joy and laughter.
