Rerun of Daily Devotional March 27, 2017
Dr. Carl Bradley is one of my heroes. He is the only musician I have ever seen that turns playing the church organ into a full contact sport.

Carl shared with me that he had given up sugar and caffeine for Lent and was very surprised at the impact it was having on his body.

Saturday, Carl drove his car to the car wash. As he reached out to dry the roof of the car, suddenly his pants dropped down to his ankles. He quickly reached down to pull them up but it was too late. Everyone at the car wash had seen what happened.

He told me what aggravated him the most was that no one applauded.

While that was an image I didn’t want in my brain, I understand what Carl was talking about. Sometimes things just don’t go our way. Your pants may not drop to your ankles in front of a crowd but that doesn’t mean that something equally awkward won’t happen.

The point is that when those sorts of things do happen, don’t let it phase you. That’s life. Life happens to everyone.
But remember that no matter what happens, you have a God that loves you more than you can possibly imagine.

This is why Paul tells us no matter what happens in life, we have a God to be praised. He said, “Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, ‘Rejoice.’ Let your gentleness be known to everyone. The Lord is near. Do not worry about anything but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:4-7)

So embrace this day knowing that you are loved. Also, wear a belt.

Prayer: Dear Gracious Heavenly God, I do not know what will happen today but I know you are with me. That’s all I need to know. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

While my pants have never dropped to the ground in front of a crowd, I did forget the beginning of Lord’s Prayer one Sunday morning. Finally, I had to say, “Someone start us off because I can’t remember how it goes.” They never let me forget it but the world kept turning.

I pray your day is filled with joy and laughter.
