Rerun from Daily Devotional January 31, 2018
My grandson’s birthday is coming up, so Mark and Caitlyn Su bought Bruce a swing set unlike anything I’ve ever seen.
It was delivered in fourteen boxes on a flatbed truck.
This swing set has two forts, three swings, one slide, one bridge, a ladder, a ramp, a tire swing, a rock climbing wall, a rope ladder, two flags, a telescope, a steering wheel, a microwave, a sushi bar, sauna, hot tub, full kitchen, satellite dish, lounge area, fifty inch high definition television, gift wrapping room, bunk beds, fireplace, air compressor, central heat and air, a gun range, skeet thrower, air control tower and a flashing light to warn off low flying aircraft. It pretty much has everything.
In order to assemble this swing set from hell, Mark’s father did a lot of work, and I’ve made two trips to Pflugerville to help.
In looking at this monstrous swing set that takes up a huge portion of their backyard, and realizing that my son-in-law has been working on it nonstop in the sun and rain as well as cold, it dawned on me the extraordinary lengths that a father will go to for his children. It’s the same with God.
Jesus said, “Who among you will give your children a stone when they ask for bread? Or give them a snake when they ask for fish? If you who are evil know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give good things to those who ask him.” (Matthew 7:9-11)
God loves you even more than Mark loves Bruce. And God has gone to extraordinary lengths and sacrifice in order to give you what matters most – eternity.
So take a few moments to thank God for his gracious love and mercy. It will be time well spent.
Prayer: Dear Gracious Heavenly God, even though there are times when I do not follow your will or put you first in my life, you continue to shower me with your love and grace. For this I give you my thanks and praise. I pray that my life pleases you. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
Fathers do amazing things for their children. The proof is in a swing set that takes up an entire acre.
I pray your day is filled with joy and laughter.
