Today the temperature is predicted to reach 101 degrees. I will whine about it being too hot. In January, I will whine about it being too cold. I seem to whine a lot.
There’s either not enough rain or too much. My truck gets a flat tire at the most inconvenient time. I get stopped by a long traffic light. Traffic grinds to a halt on Interstate 35. Long lines at the grocery store. Someone has a bigger house than I do. My plow breaks. My tractor won’t start. Someone preaches a better sermon than I do. The list of injustices I have to bear as heavy burdens goes on and on and on….
This is not the right perspective for someone who professes Jesus as Lord and savior. I need to see the big picture and remember that in the end, the world does not revolve around me and I am going to heaven. That’s as good as it gets.
No matter what I think about the amount of rain, God sends it as needed.
When my truck has a flat tire, whining won’t do any good. I need to get my tucus out of the truck and change the tire. The good news is I have a spare.
Traffic lights exist for a reason. They allow the safe flow of traffic in different directions.
I am convinced that one day before I die, the traffic on Interstate 35 will move like it’s supposed to.
Long lines at the grocery store simply mean people are able to buy food. That’s a good thing.
Someone has a bigger house. So what?
The plow breaks. That’s what David and his welder are for.
When the tractor doesn’t start, it’s time to charge the battery.
When someone preaches a better sermon than I do – I made that up. Never going to happen.
The key to a happy, content life is to realize that even though there may be a few inconveniences, God has blessed us immeasurably. All we have to do is open our eyes.
This is what Paul meant by saying, “I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances.” (Philippians 4:11)
So as you face the challenges of a new day, know that God is with you, God loves you, and God will bring you home. That puts everything in the proper perspective.
Prayer: Dear Gracious Heavenly God, fill my heart with joy, my mind with wisdom, and my mouth with words of grace. Help me be content with the many blessings you have showered upon me. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
Today the temperature is predicted to reach 101 degrees. It will be a very good day.
I pray your day is filled with joy and laughter.
