Rerun Friday: Devotional for September 13, 2014
Whenever I begin to think I am important, I go to the church receptionist desk and ask for my messages. That’s because all important people have messages. I never have any. This always brings me back to the realization that I am not as important as I think I am. That’s a good thing.
A few days ago, a volunteer at the receptionist desk decided that after all these years of never getting messages; it was time I got some. She gave me two. One message was from God and the other was from Satan.
The message from God said, “You are important to me and many others. I did send my Son to die for you.” The message from Satan said, “Stop telling everyone to love each other. You are messing up my plans.” These two short messages pretty much sum up the gospel message.
So if you are like me and need a few messages to validate your existence; these are as good as it gets.
While you may not have a volunteer at the church office that makes sure you get a message from God and Satan, know that those messages are out there. God wants us to be selfless. Satan wants us to be selfish. We decide.
When Paul tells the early Christians how to live a holy life, he says, “Love should be shown without pretending. Hate evil, and hold on to what is good. Love each other like the members of your family. Be the best at showing honor to each other. Don’t hesitate to be enthusiastic – be on fire in the Spirit as you serve the Lord! Be happy in your hope, stand your ground when you’re in trouble, devote yourselves to prayer.” Romans 12:9-12 CEB
Make the choice to live a holy life. You will not regret it.
Prayer: Dear Gracious Heavenly God, I pray that I live my life in a way that is pleasing to you. Give me a holy purpose. Let love shine through me in such a way that others are brought into your kingdom. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
Messages from God are everywhere. All we have to do is look.
I pray your day is filled with joy and laughter.
